Commercial Banking

The Standard Chartered Bank Group has maintained a continuous presence in the Southern Gulf for over 88 years, with the establishment of the first bank on the Kingdom of Bahrain in 1920. We opened our first branch in the UAE in 1958. Today, we have seven branches: four in Dubai, and one each in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Al Ain. We have one of the largest branch networks of any foreign bank operating in the UAE. Standard Chartered's regional headquarters in Dubai covers the Middle East (Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Iran and the UAE) and portions of South Asia (Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka). We concentrate on personal and corporate banking and treasury operations. We are regarded as the UAE's leading international trade finance bank, with strong treasury and corporate management support. The economy is based on free enterprise with no foreign exchange restrictions on the UAE currency, known as the Dirham (SWIFT code AED). In practice the AED is fixed to the US Dollar at a rate of about AED 3.673 to USD 1.
